| Rusting Safety Pins & Bottle Caps Use an empty 1 lb coffee can for this, And I also do it outside, as it will make a foam on top, as well as fumes. Either 2 cups Bleach or Peroxide (I prefer bleach) 1 cup Vinegar 1 tablespoon of Salt Throw all the ingredients in your can or jar. Put the safety pins or bottle caps in and allow to set overnight, if I'm not in a big hurry..LOL I prefer them to set in the solution 2 or 3 days. Take them out (wearing gloves), and spread them out on newspaper or paper towels to dry easy! Mix your crystals with warm water until you are happy with the color. To this mixture add some Vanilla or whatever scent you prefer. If you want them really grungy, add some cinnamon! Drop your tags into the mixture and let soak about 5 minutes. Take them out and spread on paper towels. You can dry them several ways. You can set them outside in the sun, dry in a very low oven, or the way I prefer..in the Microwave. If you choose this method, I do have to warn you though, DO NOT WALK AWAY.. If you set the time to high, your tags can catch on fire. This is a known fact! LOL! Been there done that! Now you are ready to dress up your Tags! There are several kinds, but I mostly use the Matte Finish. Here are a few ideas for ya! ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cinnamon Grunging Depending on what you want to Grunge mix some burnt umber with some mod podge then add a generous amount of cinnamon, mix it all up and paint it on the item, all over or just in some areas If you don't want the burnt umber in there.. leave it out, but water down the mod podge a bit. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Prim Looking Flowers, as an Accessory I like to use silk flowers with or on some of my dolls. The colors are way to bright, so here's what I do: Mix some water base stain with thinned out Mod Podge and just brush it all over the Petals. It Gives a nice Prim Look! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Glass Glittering an Object When the item is completely dry, brush on a coat of Mod Podge the either sprinkle or roll your item in the Glass Glitter. The mod podge dries clear and will hold your glitter to the object! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Altered Art You can buy a mod podge for Altered Art, for Paper. However i just use the regular and thin it down a bit. I use a glue stick to attach the papers, but sometimes I want to tone down the color a bit. So here again i mix a bit of water base stain with my mod podge and brush it over the Papers. (Tips by Howling Moon Designs) +++++++++ Mod Podge a box: Lay your box lid and bottom down on fabric, draw around it, then cut out about 1/2" from the circle...spread modge podge on the box, then glue the circle on, then glue the edges down. Next measure the side of the box, the height and add about 1/2", and measure the length around it, adding a 1/4" or so. Turn one edge under 1/4" and iron to hold it. Glue that piece on the side, with the turned under edge on the bottom of the box for a finished edge, and the other edge over the top of the box, glued on the inside (you could probably add a bit more, and turn that under as well, but I usually cover the insides with paper to hide it)...do the rim of the lid the same way. After it's dry, you can sand it, stain it, etc. If you want to cover the inside, I normally will tear paper in large pieces, and then glue that in with the mod podge. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Quick easy Pumpkin Bowl Fillers Cut a circle of paper about 7-8 inches wide Lay on homespun and baste around the top with 3 strands of embroidery floss. Stuff firmly and pull the baste stitch up like a draw string as tight as you can and knot off. Insert and sew (or hot glue) some Spanish moss, a cinnamon stick and a handmade leaf in the hole at the top. There you have it...pumpkin bowl fillers (Tip by Skunk Hollow Country Store) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Need Doll Hair for Raggedy? Visit Oh Sew Dollin! Click here |
