Making Purchased Thongs into  ... Beautiful Hand painted  Whimsies

Step 1...
Make sure to buy a good pair of Thongs with Fabric tops,
and at least a 2" heel on them or what ever you wear.. (  also they  must be new) !
Quality is better...don't be cheap !
Here I have used foam ones, but the cork ones would also paint on easily.
But a little more difficult to add a pattern to.

Step 2...
If you buy a white or light color pair of thongs you may use  a
pencil to draw your painting pattern or design on to the shoe lightly.
Dark color shoes ( Like the ones I used for the Beach design) however  requires  free
hand painting....but still easy to do, just let your imagination go and have fun.

Step 3...
Use Acrylic Paints ( Ceramcoat brand  suggested)
Now fill in your pattern  use one coat so it show that artsy  primitive look or free hand
paint in the same way.
With your chosen colors. Use small  flat brush  (  I use a #8 Craft Smart by Royal 9159)
Let dry over night.

Step 4...
Using  Delta Ceramcoat- Matte Exterior / Interior Varnish
(super Tough Polyurethane) to seal your design on to the thong.
Put 2 coats for sure....letting it dry 15 minutes between coats.
Then let dry 2 hours for sure. ( before doing step 5)

Step 5...
Now you can use an Indian Ink pen to finish off the design, If you like.
Suggested product to use  listed below:
Faber-Castell
Pitt artist pen  ( waterproof-maximum light-fastness ) super fine size.
Let dry and wear.

That all to it....
Hope you enjoyed this easy to medium easy how to.

Beach  Thong  Idea: ( See pictures for details)
For this  sample pair of thongs a purchased  brown foam thongs with sea color tops.
How the beach thongs were made was by using a 3/8"  pouncer brush small ( the
Natural # 34013) , and using 3 shade of  different blue paints  pouncing  high and low
for ocean effect. Really made a wonderful  ocean look.
Then using the same  pouncer  and using white paint on the top edge, the waves came
to life.
I  use my flat brush and added top part of a dolphin  floating in  the water to my thongs.
Using  white and black paint to make grey for the dolphins. This  adds some whimsy.
You could even add a light sprinkle of white glitter to the wave to add  a different look.

Pictured  on my blog are the Flower White Thongs, made by my granddaughter  age
9...yes she made these for her Mom for Mother's Day. Using this same method above.
Makes a great gift....her Mom loved them !
